Leonardo Santos is known for his incredible ground game, as evidence by his nine career submission wins.
At UFC 194 Saturday night, though, Santos landed a powerful right hand and finished Kevin Lee, earning his third straight Octagon win and improving to 4-0-1 with the promotion.
Following his finish, Santos – making his North American debut – jumped right out of the Octagon and sprinted to find Brazilian fans inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
“I was so excited,” he said. “I didn’t know what I was doing, I was just going crazy. I just went crazy and couldn’t hold myself in. I just want to have fun.”
A training partner and close friend of Jose Aldo, Santos (15-3-1) wanted to let everyone in the lightweight division know that he has worked hard to become a complete fighter. He is also a seven-time world jiu-jitsu champion.
“I train hard at Nova Uniao,” Santos said. “I look to be a better fighter, a complete fighter.”
For Lee, the loss dropped him to 11-2 and snapped a four-fight win streak.
